Gordon & Macphail LEDAIG 2008
$220.89
The Gordon & MacPhail Ledaig 2008 release is from their Connoisseurs Choice line and was a 12-year-old single malt that received a Hermitage Cask Finish (Hermitage is a red wine region in the Rhône Valley, France).
ABV: 45%
Tasting Notes (Based on the Hermitage Cask Finish):
-
Aroma: Thick, rich, and sweet peat smoke (bonfire ashes) intertwined with aromatic notes of summer berries, dark fruits (plums, strawberries), honey, and a bright lemon zest or citrus peel.
-
Palate: Rich and robust, with a thick mouthfeel. The classic Ledaig profile of simmering peat and savory ‘funk’ is supported by brown sugar, toffee sweetness, orchard fruits (apple), and vanilla. A distinct peppery spice (black pepper, cinnamon) emerges mid-palate, likely enhanced by the Hermitage wood.
-
Finish: Long, warming, and complex. The peat smoke reasserts itself strongly, mingling with notes of cracked black pepper, oak, and a lingering dark fruit/red wine sweetness.
