Tullibardine Distillery founded in 1949 – the same year Firkin Founder and head blender Mike Collings was born. The distillery is located at the gateway to the Highlands, close by the Ochil Hills about 50 miles north-west of Edinburgh. This expression, from the Firkin 49 series, began with a 2012 Tullibardine maturing in a first fill Bourbon barrel (which is a pretty good dram all on it’s own) it was transformed into an outstanding whisky when it was further matured in a cask made from staves from two types of sherry casks: nutty Amontillado and a rich Oloroso.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Creamy butterscotch toffee
Palate: Tropical fruits with a hint of cinnamon. Nuttier elements appear on the back palate. A touch of water brings out the fruit even more.
Finish: Crisp malt and some fruit oak that hangs around with a tad of cinnamon and sweet biscuit.
